Mission of the UIUC Chapters
The purpose of NORML/SSDP, UIUC Chapters is to work with NORML, Illinois NORML, SSDP and other college NORML and SSDP chapters to present alternatives to current marijuana, other drug, and hemp policies; work towards a change in present Illinois marijuana, other drug, and hemp laws; and provide well-researched information about marijuana, other drugs, and hemp to UIUC and the Champaign-Urbana community. The organization will educate people about the common misconceptions and facts regarding marijuana and other drugs, the role of medical marijuana in treating certain medical conditions, the benefits of adopting decriminalization policies for marijuana and other drugs, the invasive and ineffective tactics such as drug testing in schools and Zero-Tolerance education programs, the negative effects of the drug war and “Plan Columbia”, and how industrial hemp can offer a boost to Illinois’s environment and economy.
Mission of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws
NORML’s mission is to move public opinion sufficiently to achieve the repeal of marijuana prohibition so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no longer subject to penalty.
